Maid in Cambodia is a self-initiated and personally financed project started by two of the organization’s members, Marisa Tan and Petra Dahm. Their desire and personal efforts to start a training and placement agency for local Cambodian women (focus on domestic work), led to the successful opening of Maid in Cambodia in June 2014. Of great importance was to have someone locally. Marisa, with her husband Allen and daughter Sophia have been living in Phnom Penh since April 2010.
Maid in Cambodia is pleased to announce the launch of our new safety campaign! As many of you know, the traffic in Phnom Penh is very hectic, dangerous and often deadly. The National Road Safety Committee (NRSC) reported that road deaths are up by almost 15% for 2015. This means an average of 6 people a day die in traffic accidents.
Our staff’s safety and overall well-being is our #1 priority! For this reason we have launched this safety campaign to not only supply our women with proper helmets and rain gear, but to also take some time to educate them on why it’s important to wear a helmet when operating a motorbike. We encourage our team to take this safety message back to their homes and to raise awareness.
